All I have to sell is scar tissue

Episode 2.05 of the Damns Given Podcast

Happy Friday!

New skinny episode is up, and this one is a little personal.

I tell the story of a client. Dave talked about our work on a podcast recently, and I was so inspired by his description of our work and what it takes to do real change, I wanted to join the conversation. Dave is one of my favorite people I've ever worked with, who described our engagement as "getting punched in the face and then hugged afterward." I can't argue with that. It's kind of what we do.

But this episode is really about something underneath that. It's about what real venture change actually asks of you, and why it's not therapy, even when it feels like it. It's about why your marketing problem is almost never just a marketing problem. And it's about the only two things I've ever seen consistently move leaders forward: humility and courage. Not as personality types. As a practice. One notch at a time.

If you wonder why the same problems keep showing up for you, or are frustrated with why outsource solutions don't produce real change, this is for you. But to be honest, I'm trying to speak to anyone who wants to be better next month than last month, next year than last year. Our businesses are reflections of our own journey into personal health. And this is one of the first attempts I've made to talk about this in depth publicly.

See you in there.
